Our success is attributed to the efforts of everyone at the firm and we highly value the work our staff does to serve clients and assist attorneys. Staff members are often given the opportunity to grow and expand their role within the firm.
Our paralegals assist attorneys in legal research, discovery, pleadings, preparing cases for trial, and organizing and maintaining case files and other documentation. Our paralegals are all experienced litigation professionals with advanced knowledge in particular areas, including insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, environmental compliance and coverage, medical malpractice, product liability, real estate, bankruptcy and intellectual property, as well as others.
Our administrative team consists of professionals in the areas of accounting, billing, human resources, marketing and business development, technology and information services, office services, and docket. Firm administrators manage and support the business operations of the firm
I enjoy coming to work each day. You spend a significant portion of your days at work, and when you have a true team approach, you feel like you are working with friends and family. Each person is acknowledged as an essential part of the whole. It feels unified and interconnected, which helps everything run smoothly. The attorneys I work with are great about saying thank you for a job well done or when they notice extra things that have been done to make their jobs easier. It’s great to know that your efforts do not go unnoticed. SmithAmundsen conveys a feeling of cohesiveness and solidarity. It’s that sense of camaraderie and team spirit, which I have rarely experienced elsewhere, that makes it special to me.

SmithAmundsen is a big firm with a small firm feel. While I’m part of a large organization I feel like part of a close-knit family. Our firm offers anything from patent work to litigation all the way to transactional and corporate work. SmithAmundsen grants me the flexibility to not only be knowledgeable in the areas I find interesting, but to focus on my family and create the much needed balance between work and home.
In 2010 when SmithAmundsen opened its St. Louis Office I was able to help in the startup efforts in an administrative support role. My position in the firm quickly morphed into something larger and through the support of my attorneys and firm management I was able to transfer my role and focus primarily on being a Paralegal. The professional relationships that I built at SmithAmundsen are invaluable and will continue to benefit me throughout my career.

I’ve worked at the firm for 16 years and for most of that time I provided secretarial support for a senior attorney before he retired. He was more than just a boss; he was a friend and mentor. While other firms the size of SmithAmundsen can become somewhat bureaucratic and may not have significant regard for employees, the partners at SmithAmundsen have an appreciation and high regard for the efforts of the employees and that attitude seems to influence all the levels of management in the firm. Our managing partner in Milwaukee is always available to lend an ear to any concerns and is understanding and appreciative of everyone in the office. They create an atmosphere that makes the employees want to work hard for the success of the firm.
- Jayne Long, Legal Secretary, Milwaukee office, 1998 - present
I have been an employee of SmithAmundsen since its inception in 1997. What I like best about being a part of the team is how everyone works together to get the job done. It’s a fast paced firm with lots of work and opportunities to learn about various areas of the law. SmithAmundsen offers training to secretaries on procedures and technology, which helps with productivity. It is a pleasant environment to work in and I enjoy what I do.
