Vic Piekarski is a founding member of SmithAmundsen and a member of the firm's Executive Committee. He has practiced law in Chicago for more than 30 years, but has also represented clients in cases venued in Florida, California, Colorado, Missouri, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio, Texas, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Although his experiences span several practice areas, Vic’s practice is predominantly focused on insurance coverage involving environmental, toxic tort, professional, commercial and personal lines issues as well as bad faith and extra-contractual claims. Vic was previously appointed coordinating counsel for a major insurer and as such handled or supervised the handling of bad faith and extra contractual liability litigation across a fourteen state area. He has also handled matters defending insurance brokers and agents. An accomplished trial attorney, Vic has prepared over 250 briefs in more than 100 appeals.
Vic was named to the Illinois Super Lawyers* list for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010, a peer review designation published by Law & Politics magazine. He has also received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell for his legal ability and ethics and was named a Leading Lawyer in class action/mass tort defense law, insurance, insurance coverage, and reinsurance law, products liability defense law, and toxic torts defense law by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.
