Not all lawyers can say they’ve worked in the same industry as their clients, but Kelly Smith designed and developed software before practicing patent law. Her professional database and programming experience gives her a perspective unique among lawyers in her field. As a member of the Intellectual Property Practice Group, Kelly assists clients with patent opinions, patent prosecution and patent litigation, along with multiple other intellectual property issues. She assists clients in various technology areas such as machine systems, medical devices, software, and business methods, and has considerable experience in patent drafting in the fields of heavy machinery, engines, and controls.

Kelly has a passion for learning and enjoys spending her time outside the office participating in organizations such as the National Association of Women Business Owners and Women & Hi Tech, both of which support women in business. Through these organizations Kelly volunteers to help with events that educate young girls in the fields of science, engineering and technology.
