Kay prides herself on the thoroughness with which she conducts legal research and case analysis, as well as her straightforwardness with clients when communicating her evaluation of their case. Many of those clients include insurance companies, small businesses and entertainment professionals. Her practice is focused on civil litigation, insurance defense and intellectual property matters.
Kay regularly defends business owners and homeowners facing lawsuits involving premises liability, defamation and breach of contract claims. She frequently briefs and argues dispositive motions with successful results for her clients. In the litigation arena, Kay’s personal approach to each case garners efficient outcomes catered to each client’s wishes with the goal of causing as little disruption to the client’s personal and business life as possible.
Since beginning her career at SmithAmundsen, Kay obtained an L.L.M. in Intellectual Property Law from DePaul University, with a focus on copyright and trademark law. Kay utilizes these skills to aid businesses of all sizes in securing trademark registrations and defending clients’ trademark rights. She also assists those in the entertainment industry, such as musicians, artist and authors, in securing copyright registrations.
With the combination of her litigation and intellectual property skills, Kay defends businesses from claims of trademark infringement. Her unique background of working with insurance companies in litigation coupled with her knowledge of intellectual property defense, places her in a position to aggressively defend businesses from claims involving trademark infringement.
Outside the office, Kay serves on a regional Associates Board for a non-profit that runs orphanages throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, helping to raise money in order to provide food, shelter, clothing, education and medical care for thousands of children.
