Labor & Employment Law Alerts

Welcome to the July 2010 issue of SmithAmundsen Labor & Employment Monthly. Please click here to view the issue.

In this month’s issue, we report on
the U.S. Department of Labor’s further expansion of FMLA to include the care of children of same sex partners and others caring for a child. In addition, we report on newly published regulations and model notices related to Health Care Reform.  We review the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision causing nearly 600 National Labor Relations Board cases to be re-opened along with another groundbreaking U.S. Supreme Court decision related to employee texting.  We also discuss an Illinois case with potentially devastating ramifications to subcontractors working on prevailing wage projects. We also address fee hikes for Nonimmigrant Visa Applications and filing fees. Finally, we report on how the U.S. Supreme Court effectively eviscerates the 300-Day limit for disparate impact claims and thereby greatly expands related litigation.
