Brent M. Wills

Associate

Brent is a litigation associate in the firm’s Chicago office and is routinely involved with many of the firm’s most complex litigation matters. An experienced litigator, Brent’s practice is focused on the representation of individuals, corporations and other business enterprises in connection with a wide range of commercial and tort related disputes.  Brent is currently licensed to practice in the State of Illinois and the Northern District of Illinois.

Prior to joining SmithAmundsen LLC, Brent served as a law clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois, where he assisted with the prosecution of white collar crimes and defended various federal agencies from lawsuit. While receiving his undergraduate degree at Augustana College, Brent was a three-year varsity letterman for the varsity men’s basketball team.

Lead associate in ongoing defense of biotechnology company involving wrongful death claim arising out of experimental drug therapy trial.

Lead associate in ongoing defense of national packaging company involving multi-million dollar claim for contractual indemnification.

Lead associate in ongoing defense of medical supply company involving claims for strict products liability and breach of warranty associated with widespread bacteria outbreak.

Lead associate in ongoing defense of insurance carrier involving multi-million dollar claim for spoliation of evidence.


Recent Results

Award of summary judgment on behalf of pumping equipment manufacturer arising out of multi-million dollar construction negligence claim.

Successful dismissal of motion for sanctions filed pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 137 seeking recovery of extensive attorneys’ fees and costs against prominent Chicago law firm.


Successful dismissal of legal malpractice and bad faith claims on behalf of insurance carrier and its in-house legal counsel pursuant to 735 ILCS 5/2-615 and 619.
