Jeanine S. Oury
Associate
Jeanine Oury is an associate in SmithAmundsen’s Chicago office and a member of the firm’s Construction, Commercial Litigation, and Sports Law Practice Groups. She is involved in the day-to-day handling of some of the most significant and publicly recognized matters in those groups.
Jeanine has been extensively involved in litigating multi-million dollar construction defect cases as well as wrongful death and catastrophic injury claims and successfully defending general contractors and subcontractors in complex matters. In the past year, Jeanine has successfully obtained dismissals for owners and contractors in the earliest stages of litigation, settled multi-million dollar cases with de minimus contribution from her clients, and effectively transferred significant risk to other parties to protect her clients’ interests. Jeanine also counsels athletes on a variety of legal issues, including amateurism, sports-related injuries, and compliance, to name a few.
Jeanine has authored numerous articles on the intricacies of Illinois construction law, most recently regarding the Illinois Appellate Court’s newest Restatement 414 interpretation. She currently serves as Co-chair of the Young Lawyer’s Committee of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois, an organization she has been heavily involved in since 2008.
In law school, Jeanine served as an associate editor for the Loyola International Law Review, was National Champion of the 2009 National Health Law Moot Court Competition, and won the Best Brief Award in the 2008 Wechsler Criminal Law Moot Court Competition. In addition, she served as a student attorney for the Loyola University Community Law Center Clinic by counseling clients in need of free legal services and volunteering as a domestic violence advocate.
Jeanine is licensed to practice in the state of Illinois and the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois.
