Alan L. Farkas is Co-chair of SmithAmundsen's aerospace practice. An accomplished trial attorney, Alan concentrates his practice in aviation, real estate, complex torts, and commercial litigation. He began representing clients at trial early in his career, and has maintained a near unblemished record at trial, with a 95 percent success rate. Alan has been practicing law since 1993, and has handled a variety of complex cases, from aviation air disasters to defending individuals and municipalities in Civil Rights lawsuits. In 2009, Alan took four cases to trial with barely a rest between them, including one in which he represented a nationally known hospital in a public hearing challenging the installation of a heliport in downtown Chicago.

Alan was elected Trustee of the Village of Deerfield, Illinois in 2009 and named to the Illinois Super Lawyers* list in 2009 and 2010, a peer review designation published by Law & Politics magazine. Alan was also named as one of Illinois’ Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and the Law Bulletin Publishing Company. He is a member of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society in which membership is limited to 3,500 Fellows, or one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Alan is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell for his legal ability and ethics.

In addition to trial work, Alan has been retained to advise corporations, pilots, airports, and municipalities on regulatory and statutory compliance, formation and organization, and liability protection. Alan has also served as Chairman of EAA’s Legal Advisory Council since 2011.
