Katie is a partner with SmithAmundsen and concentrates her practice in insurance coverage, including the areas of toxic and mass tort, property damage, product liability, transportation, maritime, and professional lines. She handles claims coverage work at the pre-litigation, litigation, and settlement negotiation stages.
Katie is licensed in Illinois state and federal courts but has also regularly represented clients in cases venued outside of Illinois, including Alabama, California, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin. While in law school, she was fortunate enough to serve as a fellow at the Office of Management and Budget in Washington D.C. and assist in the drafting of "Legal Issues-Licensure and Telemedicine,” a section of the January 31, 1997 Telemedicine Report to Congress.
Katie is a member of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society in which membership is limited to 3,500 Fellows, or one-half of one percent of American lawyers. She received a preeminent AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell for her legal ability and ethics. Katie was also named to the Illinois Rising Stars* list in 2010, 2011, and 2012, a peer review designation published by Law & Politics magazine.
