Al is a partner in the firm’s Chicago office focusing his work on environmental matters and class actions.
Al has represented clients in USEPA administrative actions, including an action requiring the clean-up of a PCB spill brought pursuant to the Clean Water Act and an action for violations of FIFRA’s labeling requirements. He has also counseled clients regarding compliance with environmental-related laws and regulations, including the Oil Pollution Prevention Act, FIFRA and the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s labeling requirements for certain household products.
Al has experience with CERCLA, representing individual clients, PRP groups, and individual members of PRP groups in CERLCA-based lawsuits and administrative enforcement actions brought by the EPA requiring the clean-up of historically contaminated properties. Al recently represented a large steel manufacturer in the arbitration of a $90+ million CERCLA dispute.
Al also advises buyers, sellers and lenders on environmental issues associated with mergers, acquisitions, loans and real estate transactions.
In addition to environmental experience, Al routinely represents clients in individual, mass action and class action toxic tort lawsuits. Al has represented manufacturers in individual and class action lawsuits seeking to recover for exposure to contaminated groundwater, and is currently defending a private wastewater treatment company in individual, mass and class action suits brought as a result of damages arising from sewage back-ups. He has also represented clients in product liability suits brought as a result to exposure to toxic chemicals and other alleged personal injuries due to alleged product defects.
Al also regularly defends clients in consumer class actions.
Prior to attending law school, Al was a Captain in the US Air Force and worked for the US Air Force Communications agency as a technical support coordinator.
