Eric Samore is one of the founding partners of SmithAmundsen and chairperson of the firm’s Class Action, Environmental, and Toxic Torts practices. He concentrates his practice in defending a wide variety of class actions, commercial litigation, and environmental claims. He has defended more than 50 class actions, alleging consumer fraud, breach of contract, data privacy, and statutory violations in more than a half dozen different states.
Eric was recently selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2012 in the field of Mass Tort Litigation. Eric was has also been selected for inclusion on the Illinois Super Lawyers* list for 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 in Class Action and Mass Tort. Super Lawyers is a peer review designation published by Law & Politics magazine. Additionally, he has received an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell for his legal ability and ethics. Furthermore, Eric was named a Leading Lawyer in class action/mass tort defense law and toxic torts defense law by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.
Eric secured a significant victory in an opinion authored by Judge Posner for the Seventh Circuit, raising the bar that the plaintiffs counsel must clear in order to satisfy the adequacy requirement for class certification (Creative Montessori Learning Centers v. Ashford Gear, 662 F.3d 913, 7th Cir. 2011). Eric also obtained the lowest wrongful death verdict in Cook County for the calendar year on an admitted liability case; the jury awarded only $30,000 to the decedent’s husband of 33 years. He has also written numerous articles and been a frequent speaker on a variety of class action and mass tort issues. Prior to private practice, Eric served as law clerk to Justice Allen Hartman of the Illinois Appellate Court.
