Mike Resis is a founding partner and chairman of SmithAmundsen’s appellate department. He has practiced law in Chicago for 20 years and handled more than 500 appeals. Mike has represented government, business, and professional organizations as amicus curiae before the Illinois Supreme Court and the Illinois Appellate Court. He is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the Northern District of Illinois, and the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He has been admitted pro hac vice before the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, the Iowa Court of Appeals, the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Missouri Court of Appeals. On behalf of his clients, Mike has reversed a number of multimillion dollar verdicts and judgments, including a $9.3 million verdict against a state tollway and a $10.4 million judgment against an insurance company.
Mike was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in 2009, 2010, 2011 in the area of appellate law. For seven consecutive years, Mike has been selected for inclusion in Illinois Super Lawyers©* magazine, a peer review designation published by Law & Politics. In the 2008 publication, Mike received the honor of being one of 100 top reviewed attorneys. Super Lawyers©* Corporate Counsel edition selected Mike for inclusion in the appellate work category in 2010. Mike has received an AV© rating from Martindale-Hubbell for his legal ability and ethics and was named a "Leading Lawyer" in civil appellate law by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.
