An accomplished trial attorney, Jim is a partner with SmithAmundsen’s Chicago office and practices throughout Illinois in state and federal courts. Jim has tried cases before juries in northern, southern, and central Illinois. He handles all types of premises liability cases including slip and fall, falling merchandise, and security such as false arrest and malicious prosecution. Jim also routinely handles construction accident litigation as well as litigation based on third party criminal acts. Furthermore, he is experienced in defending professional liability lawsuits, particularly those involving legal malpractice. It is not unusual for clients to ask Jim to substitute in a case specifically for trial. Jim likes to say that if a case has a jury demand on it, he will handle it. Jim has received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell for his legal ability and ethics and was named a Leading Lawyer* in personal injury defense law and alternative dispute resolution by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and on October 1, 2009 he passed the Indiana bar exam. He was sworn into the Indiana bar in 2009. *The selection of attorneys to the Leading Lawyer lists does not guarantee a positive client outcome in any specific legal matter or engagement nor constitute a representation by the firm of SmithAmundsen about the caliber of legal work performed by any other attorney not selected as part of these lists.
