While many law firms have summer programs, the Summer Associate Program at SmithAmundsen is a true working experience. Our goal is to offer you a realistic look at what law firm life entails. We do our best to help you learn as much as you can and expose you to as many different types of law as possible during the summer. You will receive work on a rotating basis from various attorneys and practice groups throughout the firm. In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend court, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and even trials. We want you to see what it means to be a lawyer at SmithAmundsen.
Our attorneys invest themselves in the Summer Associate Program. As a summer associate, you will be paired with two attorney mentors. The goal of the mentors is to ensure that you have a meaningful experience. Since the work you do here at SmithAmundsen is very different from the work you do in law school, a “reader” will be assigned to review your work and offer constructive comments before assignments are submitted.
To ensure that you receive appropriate feedback and opportunity for growth, there are informal evaluations following the submission of each assignment. About midway through the program, you will receive a formal evaluation. This provides an opportunity for dialogue between you and experienced attorneys about the quality of your work and your experience at SmithAmundsen.
